An unlikely friendship between a Duluth police officer and a 6-year-old is garnering attention all over the country.

The rapport between veteran Officer Rolf Seiferheld and little Harrison Humphries is clearly heartwarming.

Harrison wants to be a cop and met the officer only some months ago during the officer's patrol downtown.

"How many years have you been at the police station," the 6-year-old asked Seiferheld.

The two complement each other as Humphries makes sure Seiferheld keeps his equipment straight, and he makes sure Harrison gets his shoes on.

Harrison is quite possessive about the officer and won't let anyone sneak upon him.

"She's behind you," Harrison warned, as a news reporter had her camera angled over the officer's shoulder.

Harrison has big dreams for his future and wants to learn how to be a good investigator. He says he wants to be a police officer, "Help people get better," he said.

It's pretty much the same reason Seiferheld wanted to be a police officer, too. "Be kind, and treat people how you want to be treated. Show them the respect they deserve," Seiferheld said.

Harrison's mom, Tara said Seiferheld has been kind and respectful to her son in a time when people won't take the time or because they're scared.

Seiferheld treats Harrison like any other kid who wants to be a police officer.

"Harrison was born without arms, and the absence of leg bones, so his hips, fibulas, and femurs. But we were told he would never be able to walk, never be able to feed himself, never be able to do anything," she said.

But Harrison has beaten all odds and can do everything. He uses his feet the same way other people use their hands.

"So he brushes his teeth, his hair, tries to get himself dressed," she said. "He wants to be a detective, or the head police in charge."

With Seiferheld as a mentor, Harrison can surely be whatever he wants to be.

"I think this is a relationship that can continue to grow, a partnership, which is what a community should be," she said.

The two are an example of a beautiful friendship and will keep working side by side, they are beyond grateful to be together.

The best part of the week for Harrison and Seiferheld is Friday night when he is downtown on patrol so they can spend quality time together.
